Punja Loom

PANJA WEAVING

Panja weaving craft is mostly used for making durries, (light woven rugs used as a kind of floor covering). The craft gets its name from a metallic claw like tool called panja in the local dialect, used to beat and set the threads in the warp.

Punja Loom (Pneumatic Handloom Machine)

Based on understanding of the opportunities for improvement. We have conceptualized the new Punja Loom which is especially designed for weaving activity of the loom to be precise. These looms enable better efficiencies by bringing down the time required to weave a rug from 4 days to 2.5 days.

Major Benefits

  • Produce rugs/carpets of superior quality as to traditional looms.
  • Definite increase in output per weaver per hour, approximately over 30-35%.
  • Empowers women: as the loom needs less strength to operate.
  • The Loom is adjustable in height, solves problems with working position by providing ergonomically seating to support the long term health of weavers.
  • Utilization of sliding chair, enables one weaver to opeate a big loom.
